Connect AI assistants and your own tools
AI assistants
Assistants that support MCP connectors, such as Claude and ChatGPT, can work in your Zentract workspace: find tasks, log time, and start or stop your timer while you talk. For example:
- “Start a timer on the homepage redesign task.”
- “What did we log for Kralendijk Dive Co this week?”
- “Create a task to send the September invoice, due Friday.”

API
A REST API over HTTPS with JSON responses for clients, projects, tasks, time entries, invoices, quotes, proposals, reports and tax. Access uses OAuth 2: the authorization code flow with PKCE, refresh tokens, and scopes such as invoices:read or tasks:write, so an app only gets what the user approves.

Build an app
Create an app
Sign in and open the developer portal to get a client ID and secret, set redirect URIs, and choose the permissions your app needs.Send users through sign-in
Your app redirects to Zentract, where the user signs in and approves the permissions.Call the API
Send the access token as a bearer token, and refresh it when it expires.
An app can also add a bot member to each workspace that installs it, so people can assign it tasks. The app acts as its bot with the client credentials grant, limited to member access and the permissions the workspace approved.
Apps that customers install are listed in the Zentract marketplace after Zentract reviews them.
Questions
- Which AI assistants work with Zentract?
- Assistants that connect to remote MCP servers with sign-in, such as Claude and ChatGPT. Add https://mcp.zentract.io/mcp as a custom connector.
- Can an assistant see or change my invoices?
- Not through the MCP server: its tools cover tasks, projects, clients, time entries and timers. Apps built on the API can read or write invoices, quotes and proposals only when you approve those permissions.
- Whose access does an assistant use?
- Yours. It works in your selected organization with the permissions you approved when you connected it.
- How do I remove an assistant's or app's access?
- In Organization settings, open Authorized apps and revoke it.
- Is there an SDK?
- No. The API is plain HTTPS and JSON, and the OpenAPI specification works with standard code generators.
